The Glass Eye is a stained glass studio located in Columbia, Missouri. Unlike most stained glass studios, we work in came (as opposed to cooper foil). Mainly we use lead came, but sometimes zinc came.
For those not familiar with stained glass construction, here's a brief explaination.
You can see some of our artwork at the Village Glass Works' show room (315 N. Tenth St., Columbia, Mo). We also donate pieces to two area non-profit organizations we support wholeheartedly - Columbia Second Chance and SNAP. Here's a piece raffled by SNAP this summer - called "Nightstalker."
If you are interested in commissioning a custom panel from The Glass Eye, talk to Susie Fiegel at VGW (573-443-0393), or contact The Glass Eye. Unfortunately, stained glass panels are expensive to ship and the cost of crating is more expensive than some expect. We have shipped them in the past, but the minimum cost just to build the plywood crate for a large panel is $100. Smaller items can be shipped if they are double boxed. However, this too is expensive. Glass has to be carefully packed.
Also, we teach lead came construction at Village Glass Works. If you are interested in learning the craft, here's an overview of the class.
Photos of some of our past works are in the Portfolio. These designs are also available for commission. But because of the variousness inherent to handcrafted work and art glass, no two items will be exactly the same.
